If you want to see a modern technology and design tour de force, there is no need to visit a Silicon Valley exhibition hall. Feel around your office for a few moments, and sooner or later you will land a hand: the BIC Crystal ball pen, which is described in The first space video above Like “perhaps the most successful product ever made”. Shortly after its introduction in 1950, the crystal became omnipresent in the world, so ideally, it knew human needs at a price that would have seemed incredibly cheaply not so long ago – to say nothing of the 17th century, when the art of writing demanded control of Quill and Enkpot.
Of course, writing itself was not very useful at that time to the illiterate majority of humanity. It started to change with the invention of the pen of the pen, which was certainly more practical than the pen, but always prohibitive even to most of those who could read. It was not until the end of the 19th century, an exhilarating age of American ingenuity, that an inventor called John Loud came with the first ball pen.
Although rude and impracticable, Loud's design planted the technological seed which would be cultivated later by others, as Biro Laszlowhich has understood the advantage of using the oil -based ink with oil rather than traditional and a French manufacturer Marcel BichWho had access to technology that could bring the ball pen to its final form.
BICH (Foreign pronunciation whose family name inspired the BIC brand name) understood how to use Swiss watchmaker machines to mass produce tall stainless steel balls for specific specifications. He chose to make the rest of the pen from molded plastic, technology of the time. The crystal body has allowed ink to be seen at any time, and its hexagonal shape prevented it from exceeding the offices. His polypropylene cover would not break when he had fallen, and he doubled as a clip to start. What is this “game changer” Before the letter cost with regard to the market? The equivalent of two dollars. As an industrial product, the Bic Crystal has never been exceeded (more than 100 billion have been sold to date), even by mobile phones or ultra-technology tablets on which you read this post. Keep this in mind the next time you have a hard time with one, zigzag in an irregular way on a page to try to take out the ink that you need to be sure somewhere.
