During the 1940s and 50s, Hollywood entered a period of “black”, producing fascinating films based on a hard fiction. These films have been placed in dark places shot in a black and white aesthetic that adapts like a glove. The hardened men wore fedoras and smoked cigarettes forever. Women have brilliantly played the role of femme fatale. Love was the safest way to death. All these elements were in what Roger Ebert calls “the kind of most American film” in his short film Noir movie guide.
