Widener University, for the Daily Times
Widener University organized its very first IA day on Friday March 21.
The event consisted of a main address, practical workshops and group discussions to encourage an engaging discussion on the use and future of AI.
“What we really wanted to do is create an opportunity for teachers, staff and students to come together to really start talking about AI and the effects that it will have on the education and workforce of the future,” said Thomas Wilk, assistant professor of philosophy and co-chantation of the Widener AI working group.
The opening speech was presented by Amanda Bickerstaff, co-founder and CEO of AI for education, and was made possible through the study program visiting Beideman funded by the chairman of the board of directors of Widener, Paul Beideman and his wife, Caroline Beideman.
Bickerstaff has discussed the history of automatic learning and artificial intelligence and the many opportunities and challenges that generative AI technology can present.
She also organized two practical workshops during the day, sharing her knowledge of the generative tools of AI, how to use them and how they change the future of education and industry around the world. Participants learned of rapid writing, data confidentiality, ethical use, etc.
The events of the day have also been included in group tasks showcase industry professionals and former students of the university covering subjects, including the advantages of AI in commercial and public relations, and AI in the field of engineering.
In addition to workshops and panels, the magician Trigg Watson brought his fascinating magic of the future on the campus before and during the event. After having appeared before “America's Got Talent”, Watson mixed AI technology and the magic of the classic street for a really unique experience.
In addition to these programs, there was a competition for students, teachers and staff to submit the innovative ways they use AI in their work with prices available for graduate and undergraduate students.
