The White House published a new executive action on Wednesday which aims to provide education in artificial intelligence technologies and tools to schools at level K-12 thanks to the creation of a new working group and the allocation of federal subsidy programs to support the expansion of AI study programs.
THE “Advance the education of artificial intelligence for young AmericansThe executive decree is the last Trump administration policy to ensure American competitiveness in technological and digital subjects, in part by investing in educators to equip them with appropriate equipment for teaching AI systems and integrating them into classrooms.
“To ensure that the United States remains a world leader in this technological revolution, we must offer young people in our country the opportunities to cultivate the skills and understanding necessary to use and create the next generation of AI technology,” said the order.
Teacher training in AI education programs will precede students' training, emphasizing the need for both an early exposure to the basic education of AI and guaranteeing that educational resources in emerging technical fields are available for “lifetime learners”.
“By establishing a solid framework which incorporates an early exhibition into students in complete training of teachers and other resources for the development of labor, we can ensure that each American has the opportunity to find out about the AI from the early stages of their educational journey thanks to post-secondary education, by promoting a culture of innovation and critical thinking that will consolidate the leadership of our country in the future of IA”.
The creation of a new working group on the education of artificial intelligence is central. The members of the working group will include federal leaders such as the Secretary of Agriculture; The Secretary of Labor; the energy secretary; the Secretary of Education; the director of the National Science Foundation; the president's assistant for domestic policy; The Special Council for AI and Crypto; the president's assistant for politics; and the heads of other departments and executive agencies.
The director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy will serve as president of the working group and has the power to add members to their discretion.
The working group now has 90 days after publication of the order to plan a presidential challenge of artificial intelligence. Taking place within 12 months of the submission of this initial plan, the IA challenge will highlight the educator and students working in AI education and will promote new AI education programs across the country.
The challenge will also promote collaboration between the government and the academic sectors, as well as philanthropic and industrial partners.
The order has also noted that the administration will announce public-private partnerships to extend access to AI education on a hilly basis during their training.
Following the announcement awaiting public-private partnership, the working group is invited to have the resources of these collaborations ready to deploy in schools within 180 days of the training of partnerships.
The other 90 -day deadlines set by the ordinance require that the working group identifies the existing federal programming to accelerate the inclusion of AI literacy in the American education system.
The Secretary of Education is also specifically responsible for issuing new guidelines within 90 days on the use of discretionary grant funds to improve education results by using various AI tools, as well as to identify the areas where the government can use existing federal research programs to help governments of states and premises to further integrate AI into their educational systems.
At 120 days, the Secretary of Education will also be required to “take measures” to prioritize the use of AI in the programming of discretionary subsidies for teacher training on AI. Some of the target fields where the order envisages AI as a tool for teachers reduces administrative work with a high intensity of time, the improvement of teacher training and evaluation and providing professional development in the fundamental concepts of IT and AI.
The order also aims to provide AI courses to American secondary schools through priority subsidies and commitment with the development and local development commissions to integrate AI education and certification frameworks within this period of 120 days.
Certain plea groups have already expressed their support for expanded AI education possibilities.
“The AI in education is more than a simple student hacking to write a quick test. It is a tool that resumes the American economy and that students will have to become competent, “said the president responsible for innovation, Brad Carson, in a press release Nextgov / FCW. “Today's decree is a start. Although states have traditionally conducted on education policy, there is an important role for the federal government to play in the provision of advice on how school districts across the country can help students prepare for an economy fueled by AI. ”
We do not know how this new order will be allocated by the executive decree of Trump March 20 for the Department of Education to be dismantled and its authority has transformed towards the governments of states and local.
