“DTMS is like any other task in life; the more you do, the more competent you will become,” said Anthony Woodard about the digital training management system.

Woodard is the lead in the army training management system (automatic counters) and has recently shared certain common concerns of users and the DTMS resources available for soldiers.

The Directorate of Training Management (TMD) is the functional promoter of the DTMS as well as the supporter of training management in the army. DTMS provides support to driving units in the training management process described in FM 7-0, training. It is structured to allow units training managers to record and manage the training files for soldiers and units and plan the training of units via calendars and automated schedules.

Current concerns

User accounts are systematically the most common problem for which DTMS users are asking for assistance from ATM assistance. Woodard said that DTMS user accounts need a specific username to create a valid account and obtain authorized access to the unit registration. The managers of the DTMS unit often try to create a new account with the email address of a soldier's company. This action is incorrect and will prevent the new user from having access.

The only place to locate and confirm the username of a new user is the identification, identification and access portal (ICAM). As a inherited system, DTMS uses the Ako / Legacy username. THE Icam portal The poster as the identification of the inherited user (UID). DTMS managers must use the inherited UID to create a DTMS account.

Other common problems include DTMS management requests concerning DTMS unit training lists or questions about how to record soldiers training data such as weapons qualification, ACFT score or size / weight.

Although the concerns of HR systems are not subjects to which the office can address, DTMS managers can often find solutions to common problems on DTMS Knowledge Base through the Army training network (ATN). The knowledge base is an excellent source of information and includes many useful tutorials and videos. TMD regularly updates tutorials on ATN to discuss the modifications of the software applied to DTM.

“Our agents refer to these products themselves, and we encourage others to use the ATN to answer many training management questions,” said Woodard.

ATMS assistance agents are familiar with regulatory guidance functions, training doctrine and DTMS software functions. Their first step to help the user is to focus on the user to understand the underlying issue and concern.

Tips for DTMS users

  • Make sure to understand the training policy established by HQDA, your command and the doctrine of support training established by the training promoter (for example, Infantry School or Medcoe).
  • Take advantage of DTMS training opportunities offered by your order or on your installation.
  • Consider attending an online DTMS training session provided on MS teams.
  • Look for ATN and get used to periodically examining the site for training events or upcoming changes.
  • Make sure that the unit contact points are updated on the DTMS knowledge basis to receive communications on system changes.
  • Attend the DTMS questions / answers.
  • Find self-assistance tutorials, training links and other information on information related to ATN training.

NotablyDtms Has an accessible “practice” site when connecting the user. The practice site allows users to explore the system and learn how to record training data, generate unit training reports and learning from other DTMS functions without having a negative impact on unit's operational data.

Woodard encourages users to “not be frustrated or to count on day -to -day information in DTMS. Use the ATN and do not hesitate to take advantage of Help Desk. They like to help soldiers!

DTMS questions and answers sessions

Question-answer sessions are information dissemination of information focused on the DTMS users in order to deal with their questions and concerns directly from the source. These sessions have been well followed and help to alleviate false ideas surrounding the army training policy changes and the DTMS system.

“The most important impact of questions and answers is to give the field a feeling of familiarity with TMD as management,” said Woodard. “Being able to sit down and discuss the problems of DTMS, rumors and changes in the training policy to come to come – I think that it gives the customer the peace of mind instead of feeling as if they are dealing with a robot each time they send a ticket or have a problem.”

Currently, there is no calendar defined for questions and answers.

“We aim to have the sessions each time a substantial change focused on politics is applied to the system, such as the recent AR 600-9, ABCP or recent ACFT changes,” said Woodard. “This seems to occur about twice a quarter-the next session is projected for the end of September after the implementation of changes in automatic ticket distributors concerning the ABCP policy changes from the AR 600-9 army implemented by the 2025-11 army directive.”

Available resources

Many DTMS users have never received training on how to use DTMS. However, many resources are available for users, whether via the DTMS contact point in their unit, on ATN or via the assistance service. TMD also offers a monthly course for DTMS operators through MS teams and a quarterly course for DTMS managers in person in Fort Leavenworth, Kan. The dates and instructions for both courses are available on the basis of DTMS knowledge.

Most main commands have an established contact point and TMD maintains a list in the course of POC on the DTMS knowledge basic page of ATN. It is under the useful resources tab and includes the POCs for active orders of the army, the National Guard of the Army and the Army Reserve.

Users are encouraged to use the ATN and take advantage of the many tutorials on DTMS and the training management page to respond to most of their training management problems.

Of course, users are always welcome and encouraged to contact the Help Desk Regarding questions of management of automatic tickets of tickets or training management, regardless of the problem.

“The ATM assistance service can be contacted by phone, email or live cat,” said Woodard.

The contact details are available on the ATN.Army.Mil assistance page. The assistance service can help solve most of the problems by telephone or through an online conversation with an agent. If it cannot be resolved immediately, the assistance service will raise the problem of the technical staff of the system and inform the soldier once resolved.

Conclusion

Most users who find DTMs complicated or difficult to navigate are generally new in the system and do not know how IT or army training.

“Understanding the forest and trails system helps not get lost … the more experience you have, the more you understand yourself,” said Woodard.
