Support countries to develop and implement successful teachers' policies
The principles underlying the World Bank's approach to support the development of teachers' policies include:
- Make teaching an attractive profession by improving its policies of status, remuneration and career progression structures.
- Make sure that the initial training of teachers (preservative) includes a strong internship component so that teachers are well equipped to pass and operate effectively in and beyond the class.
- Promote the meritocratic selection and the effective deployment of teachers to ensure that all students have access to good teaching.
- Provide continuous support and motivation, in the form of high quality continuous professional development (CPD) and solid school leadership to allow teachers to improve continuously.
- Use technology judiciously to improve teachers' ability to reach each student, taking into account their areas of strength and development.
Support countries to measure effective teaching practices
The open sequence of the World Bank of Class Observation Tools – Teach early childhood education (ECE),, Teach the primaryAnd Teach secondary – are designed to help low or intermediate income countries to collect data on effective teaching practices. Since its launch in 2019, the teacher suite for class observation tools has been administered in more than 25 countries, and continuous implementation has occurred in 15 other countries.
Support for countries to improve the continuous professional development of teachers (CPD)
The World Bank Coach program Help countries to design, implement and assess teachers' CPD programs and systems to align with effective practice based on evidence. The program consists of three elements: (1) the development of technical resources; (2) The provision of operational support; and (3) the facilitation of the engagement of the stakeholders. The vision of the Coach program is that all teachers have access to high -quality CPD opportunities that are suitable, practical, concentrated and in progress. These principles and the tools and resources of the coach program apply to many effective DPC forms, such as workshops, seminars, online courses, training based on schools and cluster, collaborative learning communities, mentoring, coaching, etc.
Teacher's policy work
Our next report, making the work of teacher policies, examines what it takes to design better teachers' policies, using a framework that combines information on education and behavioral sciences and examples of real policy. The report underlines that (1) the effective teachers' effective policies facilitate change at the individual level by attacking the obstacles to which teachers are confronted to bring targeted changes; and (2) For teachers' policies to work on a large scale and over time, they must be carried out operational and politically acceptable. The framework of the report requires individual level if the teachers' policy is clear, feasible and enriching; And at the level of the system if the policy is operationally feasible and politically acceptable.
