At least two Indiana school districts announced on Monday an online learning day, an action day for the state teachers' union which will include a heavy decline against a proposed land reform bill Distribute the financing of public schools.

The announcements of the Metropolitan School District of Pike Township and the Monroe County Community School Corporation come on Friday the decreasing days of a legislative session which could carry a huge financial success for the school districts. The bill on the reduction of the Senate land taxes would reduce a significant source of income for school districts, which should also share land tax revenues with charter schools.

The combined effects of the two changes would cost about $ 744 million to school districts over the next three years.

“While the MCCSC recognizes the disruption that this can lead to families, the urgency to defend the financing of public schools has never been larger,” said the latest version of the project statement. “Tens of millions of dollars are at stake with proposed legislation, in particular Bill 1 of the Senate and the Senate bill 518. If it is adopted, this legislation could have devastating consequences for public education in Indiana.”

The district said that administrators, teachers and staff would attend the day of action.

In the canton of Pike, the district said that there had been 184 planned absences of teachers on Monday, but did not indicate whether they were due to the union's day of action. (The district had just over 700 teachers in 2025-24).

The district said in a statement that tutoring after school would be canceled, but that online learning day would not have an impact on other activities after school.
