Growing up, Jordyn Horner has always found the joy of learning. This passion for knowledge transported her in life and shaped her career path. Starting as a special education assistant, she helped children overcome the challenges and discover their potential. Over time, she went to art and music teaching to prek-7 students and has become a librarian. However, through all this, a dream lingered in the background of his mind – a dream of winning a doctorate in education. With her commitments, she needed an educational flexibility that would integrate into her life rather than disturbing her – and she found it with the University of Tennessee, online program flights from Knoxville.
The idea of continuing a doctorate was intimidating. Jordyn's responsibilities were already extended – balance a career, personal commitments and secondary work as a bartender and beer guide. When she discovered the Doctor of Education Program was like everything she was looking for. “Pursuing a graduate diploma has always been a personal objective for me because I like to learn and grow,” explains Jordyn. “I wanted to make sure that I would not be selected or that I would lack career opportunities due to a lack of certification or qualifications.”
The experience itself has been a transformer. The courses, although demanding, are incredibly enriching. Jordyn has acquired in -depth expertise in education leadership and learned precious research methodologies that have perfected his professional skills and in -depth his understanding of a leader. The scholarship within its cohort was exceptional. Despite the initial apprehension on online isolation, the relationships she established with her peers and teachers were incredible. They supported each other, shared knowledge and built a community that felt tangible even if it exists in a virtual space. The university has also done its part by promoting a feeling of belonging, by organizing virtual events and by regularly communicating opportunities to engage more.
Jordyn is proud of his achievements through the Online flights program. She will be the first doctor in her family, an important step in immense personal and family significance. Working at this diploma has expanded its career potential and has strengthened its confidence. His ability to persevere through challenges, juggle several responsibilities and prosper in an online learning environment is features that she will use for the rest of her life.
After graduating this spring, there are many career possibilities. It could direct an education in the district or the state, supporting policy and systemic improvements. It could also teach future librarians at the university level or explore roles in educational technology. The experience was not only to achieve a personal objective, but to define who it is and what it can accomplish. She says that the flexibility of the program, the support she has received and the incredible sense of the community helped her unlock the potential she had not fully achieved. By thinking about this chapter of her life, she will remember it as a period of growth, discovery and empowerment. Jordyn says that it is not always easy for anyone wondering if they can balance a doctoral program with the many requests for life, but it is rewarding and a step to do.
