Practically everything that is electronic has at least one semiconductor chip inside and probably many others. From smartphones to cars and a myriad of other products and systems, small aircraft are the physical construction elements of the digital era.
How semiconductors are manufactured is the subject of a free online course, entitled Manufacturing of semiconductors 101Developed by Purdue University, the University of Texas in Austin, Intel Corp. And a group of worldwide global partners in the field.
The course at your own pace, adapted to students and professionals, is designed to provide a basic understanding of the manufacture of semiconductors. The course, which takes three to five hours to be completed, has a material engaging on a range of standard semiconductor manufacturing processes. Those who follow the course receive a certificate issued jointly by Purdue, the University of Texas in Austin and Intel.
“It is intended for all those who want to know the manufacture of semiconductors,” said Muhammad Hussain, professor at the Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering in Purdue. “The lectures of the Lighting of the University World and the Industry are simple and easy to understand and offer fundamental knowledge in this area.”
Intel funded the development of the course by Hussain and Xiuling Li, a professor with the Temple Foundation at the Chandra Family Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Texas to Austin. Experts from the University of California, Berkeley; University of Stanford; The Georgia Institute of Technology; Pennsylvania State University; ASML; and Tokyo Electron Ltd. contributed to the study program.

The individuals taking the manufacture of semiconductors 101 go through video tutorials of real equipment and process technologies. They then receive a practical experience using VFABLAB, a virtual semiconductor manufacturing reality simulation developed by Hussain. Accessible from any computer or mobile device, Vfablab is like the flight simulators on which the pilots train Before landing in a real cockpit. It presents a detailed view of a modern white room environment and puts users through the processes involved in the manufacture of semiconductor devices.
The subjects discussed in the manufacture of semiconductors 101 include the bases of the semiconductor device, the semiconductor ecosystem, the design of the chips, the oxidation, the thermal diffusion and the implantation of ions, the engraving of wet and reactive ions, lithography, slim laying in thin layers, polishing and mechanical mechanical interconnections and packaging advanced.
