THE ACHPR module is a free, online, interactive and self-rhythmized learning tool. It is the first of its kind dedicated to human rights defenders, covering the entire African Commission, its procedures and mechanisms, as well as the way in which civil society can be better committed to its work.
This brand new tool is made for human rights defenders, based on internal research and internal expertise of ISHR, as well as consultation with human rights defenders against partner organizations (see below). It is strategic, practical and full of advice and things, tailor -made for the needs of plea in the real world of civil society in Africa.
The ACHPR module is divided into three parts, provided:
- A general overview of the African Commission
- A detailed section on how to engage with the African Commission at a distance
- An in -depth section on how to engage with the African Commission in person during its ordinary sessions.
As a human rights defender, you can take the course in any order you like – you decide what interests you most, according to your needs and objectives!
The module is interactive and dynamic, Full of quiz, video testimonies, practical scenarios and real stories of human rights defenders from all over Africa. With examples of Angola, Côte d'Ivoire, Ethiopia, Madagascar and much more, you can obtain information on how other human rights defenders and civil society actors have engaged with the African Commission and the effectiveness of this to advocate.
You will also find an update Security section On the ISHR academy with content on reprisals in the context of the African Commission.
With democracy and human rights attacked in the world, more than ever, it is imperative for African civil society to invest in the intermediary of regional human rights and space mechanisms such as the African Commission, the promotion, protection and defense of human rights for all. We hope that this new online learning module will help train, educate and guide the next generation of human rights defenders in their plea efforts on the African continent.
