May 20, 2025 – Nairobi, Kenya: The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has launched a capacity building training of four days in the educational design to strengthen the capacity of its personnel to create online learning content that are supporting the regional sharing of knowledge and institutional development.

Held in Djibouti and supported by the SCIDA III project funded by GIZ (“IGAD capacity building to increase resilience in the horn of Africa”), the training brings together the IGAD community of practice, including the staff of all IGAD divisions and specialized institutions. The initiative is part of the continuous efforts of IGAD to institutionalize digital learning as a central component of the strategy of training and knowledge management policy.

The training is designed to develop the technical skills necessary for the design and management of inclusive, interactive and effective digital learning experiences using standard tools, including Adobe Captivate.

Speaking during the opening session, Ali Mohamed, coordinator of the Igad e-learning project, welcomed the participants and urged them to approach training with objective and commitment.

“In the coming days, we will mix the essential theory with practical exercises, offering you tools and skills to raise your course development capacities. At the end of this training, you will be equipped to create engaging and accessible digital learning experiences ”, He said.

Mr. Eleyeh I. DAHER, Knowledge management coordinator at the GIZ DJIBOUTI SCIDA III project, reaffirmed GIZ's partnership with IGAD to advance digital transformation through the region.

“Giz is honored to support IGAD in this initiative, which contributes to extending access to training and normalization of learning processes through the secretariat and the Member States”, “ he noted.

This training is aligned with the regional strategy and the IGAD implementation plan (2021-2025), which recognizes continuous professional development as a strategic catalyst for institutional efficiency. Thanks to this initiative, IGAD invests in a workforce that is adaptive, qualified and prepared to carry out evolving regional priorities.

The E-Learning IGAD platform, led by the Practice Community, will serve as a central center for digital training in IGAD programs-walking the exchange of sustainable knowledge and strengthening long-term institutional capacities.
