Discover the history of Drata's L&D success
Founded in 2020, the SaaS Drata platform provides safety and compliance automation solutions to help companies obtain continuous compliance for SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, RGPD and other executives. Their mission is to simplify and rationalize compliance in highly regulated industries, allowing customers to focus on innovation without compromising safety standards.
With a rapidly growing and fully distant team of more than 400 employees, Drata was faced with the challenge of creating dynamic and scalable training programs to follow their rapid growth and ensuring that employees have had the skills to succeed in a global environment.
This case study explores how Drata overcome these learning and development challenges by optimizing their training programs, rationalizing content creation and building collaborative learning academies.
Challenges
As a rapidly evolving business in the security and compliance space, Drata needed an agile learning solution that could support their growing workforce while retaining high standards that their industry requirements.
When Dana Fagley joined as a main director of learning and development in July 2022, she was faced with an ambitious task: building an L&D team from zero, as well as evolutionary programs for updating and developing leadership.
There were many reasons to have to find a new learning solution. I came on board with the task of constituting a learning and development team – and all the programs that came with it. – Dana Fagley, Senior Director, L&D
L&D scale with a small team
Before 360 learning, Drata's learning programs were largely ad hoc. They relied on a basic LMS for compulsory training in compliance, leaving employees to search for their own resources. Without a clear structure in place, it was difficult to effectively set up programs. For a new L&D team from One, this fragmented approach has created a major obstacle to provide coherent and engaging learning experiences.
Administration overload and lack of automation
Since Drata's growth has exceeded the capacities of his inherited LMS, the administrators were overwhelmed with repetitive tasks such as the registration of users and the juggling of several spreadsheets. Without an effective automated system, even routine L&D tasks took time. This has made it difficult to follow training initiatives, obtaining information on learners' engagement or freeing enough time to create robust learning content.
Limited possibilities for updating employees
Employees wanted more than compulsory courses of compliance – they needed clear pathways for the growth and reduction in highly regulated industry. Without a collaborative framework, experts in the matter (SME) had little incentive (or support) to share their knowledge. Consequently, precious expertise was kept in the silos, and Drata had trouble providing up -to -date training and specific to the role.
Lack of key integration for L&D without seam
In addition to scaling and automation challenges, Drata's existing technological battery has complicated the questions. Their previous LMS and HRIS do not integrate well, forcing users to jump between the platforms and to leave the administrators with incomplete records. For a small team aimed at proving the value of L&D programs, the lack of robust integration and consolidated reports made it difficult to secure leadership membership.
Solutions
Drata needed a learning platform that could simplify administration, empower the training led by SMEs and connect in a transparent manner to its existing systems. After evaluating several suppliers, they chose 360. For its solid capacities of creation and integration, as well as its mixture of flexibility and intuitive interface for learners and administrators. Here's how they took up each challenge.
Automation as the basis of evolutionary learning
To manage a rapidly growing workforce with a small L&D team, Drata has exploited 360-related features such as automatic registration of users, updates, notifications and real-time report dashboards. With a large part of the administrative automation of “busy work”, Dana and her team were able to focus on the design of high impact learning experiences.
Before 360Learning, the only thing (our previous LMS) was used for compulsory training in compliance. After making a deep dive, I knew that we needed a new system that could manage current needs while growing with us and supporting a global and distant workforce … and I wanted to find a system that would help us automate as much work as possible. – Dana Fagley
Centralized tools for more efficient L&D delivery
By consolidating the registration, content delivery, reports and communications in one place, Drata has considerably reduced administrative costs. Instead of juggling several platforms and calculation sheets, administrators and learners have acquired a single source of truth for all training initiatives. 360Learning dashboards have also facilitated the measure of the commitment and progression of the organization, the rationalization of processes and the conduct of a more strategic approach to L&D.
Collaborative learning academies for a stronger learning culture
To promote the development of current skills, Drata has implemented brand academies To promote collaborative learning led by employees. An exceptional example is the author's academy – a self -proclaimed certification program teacher teachers how to create training courses in 360learning. This allows everyone at Drata, from managers to individual contributors, to share the expertise on a business scale and helps to fill in internal skills.
Drata also launched the New and emerging leader academyaimed at developing current and future leaders. This initiative has led to an increase of 2x of the engagement of learners from one quarter to another, reflecting how the content focused on peers can overeat the load efforts.
360Learning has provided a platform that makes content creation and super simple user authorizations so that our SMEs can create their own content, moving us away from the path. – Dana Fagley
Transparent integration with Oppenseam
A key factor in Drata's decision to go to 360Learning was its transparent integration with the content provider Opening weapon.
By incorporating the vast organized content library of Oppenseameam directly in the 360learning platform, Drata gave immediate access to a range of standard courses, from microlearning modules to podcasts and books of books.
This meant that the L&D team could easily deploy a new training, and the administrators had powerful tools to follow completion and commitment, all in one place.
The 360Learning and Opensame partnership seemed to be the perfect choice, offering low impact and high impact programs that are crucial for small L&D teams like ours. – Dana Fagley
