As part of the Green Industry Continuing Education series, University of Nevada, Reno Extension offers a series of online entry courses for those who wish to become certified for nursery workers. The workshops will include important subjects for green industry professionals, including landscapers, nursery workers and guards.
“The Green Industry Training series is an excellent educational opportunity for new ones in industry, as well as experienced professionals who need continuing education units,” said Chad Morris, coordinator of the extension commercial horticulture program. “The series will also be offered in a hybrid format for the first time in 2022, so that students can register for online or in person courses.”
The workshops will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon, every Tuesday and Thursday, from February 1 to 24, in person and via Zoom. Lessons in person will take place at the extension office, 4955 Energy Way in Reno. An optional examination will be given on February 28. The courses are provided by experts in popularization, the staff of the Nevada agriculture department and local industry professionals. The subjects include:
- 1: pruning of landscapes
- 3: soil and water management
- 8: harmful law of weeds and weeds
- 10: Bases of plant disease
- 15: Sustainable lawn management
- 17: Identification of insects
- 22: bases of the garden center
- 24: IPM and pesticide safety
The cost of individual courses is $ 15 per class, or participants can register for the entire price for a reduced cost of $ 80. Organizations registering two to five employees for the full course receive $ 10 in a student. The discount increases to $ 15 per student when six or more employees of the same company are registered.
Registration can be carried out online. The deadline for registering for courses is January 28.
The costs include course equipment, attendance certificates and the International Arboriculture Society (ISA) and continuing education units (CEU). Classes also support the Green Industry Continuing Education Series courses, which take place all year round if necessary.
