Governor Reeves announces $ 9.1 million in IA education grants

Jackson, Miss. (Wam) – A new program will speed up the development of artificial intelligence on the job market.

Governor Reeves has announced the launch of the Mississippi AI talent accelerator program, which is “… a new initiative that promotes the development of artificial intelligence, automatic learning and related technical capacities through higher education state institutions to support the extension of Amazon web services to Mississippi.”

This program will help higher education establishments to create a training infrastructure that is in technology.

This initiative is a partnership between Accelerate MS, the Mississippi Development Authority and Amazon Web Services.

Thanks to Mai-TAP, $ 9.1 million in subsidies were allocated to the Mississippi colleges which plan to integrate AI into their educational programs. The objective is that Mississippi students develop the skills necessary to respond to requests from the artificial intelligence sector.

“This is another step forward for the Mississippi,” said Governor Tate Reeves. “We are not only preparing for the future – we build it. This investment will help ensure that Mississippiens are equipped with the skills necessary to prosper in a rapid digital economy. ”

Reeves says there are five basic pillars in Mai-Tap:

• IA / Machine learning infrastructure by investing in a human capital infrastructure: building a skilled workforce for fundamental infrastructure roles.
• IA / Machine Learnalie Literacy for Mississippiens: Promote basic understanding and skills through the population of the State.
• Education and use cases specific to industry: alignment AI education on industry -oriented applications.
• Upskilling for product innovation: Improving skills for those who create new tools and technologies.
• Research infrastructure: support the capacity of innovation in AI / automatic learning and technological advancement.

The AI ​​staff preparation council will facilitate the program and each winner will appoint a representative to participate in the Council.

Hubs beneficiaries include:

• Alcorn State University: 1.15 million dollars to form individuals in the southwest of Mississippi on digital literacy and the fundamentals of artificial intelligence. This funding will also allow the deployment of remotely resources through the ASU nursing school to improve access to health care for poorly served rural communities.
• Belhaven University: $ 390,000 to hire a dedicated AI program chair and integrate AI content into its online MBA program to ensure that work professionals have practical and aligned skills in industry.
• Jackson State University: 1.3 million dollars to launch an Executive On Roster program (XOR) to start IA experts and provide information on real-time industry, ensuring that labor participants have relevant and appropriate skills. JSU student council teams will join Millsaps College to provide support for small businesses fueled by AI to cultivate technology -oriented startups and improve the ecosystem of small Mississippi companies.
• Millsaps College: $ 1 million to rely on an existing private investment. Millsaps will establish a chair with AI and emerging technology. Thanks to the ElSeworks Student Consulting program and in partnership with JSU, Millsaps will help small businesses in IA integration.
• Mississippi College: $ 723,000 to take advantage of existing private funding. Funding for the Mississippi College will create a 12-hour certificate and a 6-hour micro-creative in their law school to ensure that the future and current Mississippi lawyers have the necessary knowledge to prosper in the world compatible with AI / Machine.
• Mississippi State University: $ 2.2 million to establish an endowment and search for a private AI-workman's workforce / Automatic learning and research initiatives. This includes two new teachers lines and the development of a higher education certificate in managing the data center – one of the first of its kind on a national level.
• University of southern Mississippi: $ 1.24 million to establish a maritime IA innovation laboratory to accelerate the adoption of AI in the Mississippi blue economy. The laboratory will focus on port efficiency, ship safety and supply chain optimization. In addition, the USM will launch a mastery of robotics and intelligent systems. Funding includes support for teachers, qualified researchers and critical GPU infrastructure. USM will establish an endowment and are looking for private matches to support research on AI / automatic learning and the application of innovations.
