Marshall McLuhan A influence A large part of my work and I used the tetrade Media laws several times to understand emerging technologies. A recent article in The free press By Benjamin Carlson was a refreshing reading by someone who had just discovered McLuhan. I started reading McLuhan's work in 1995.
I came across Marshall McLuhan a year ago on Youtube. In less than a minute or two by looking at a clip, I was surprised: he was a man who, in 1977, seemed to describe the experience of dislocation of life in 2025, and he did it with more information than the people who live today. That words came from a culgic and mustachioed man in a crumpled costume was only improving the strange feeling. Here is a professor as a prophecy. McLuhan says, in part, to his television host … I shared the clip on Twitter and he became viral with more than 6 million views –Prophets 2025-03-02
Carlson quotes an extract from a media tetrade.
To take an example of the latest book by Marshall McLuhan, The Global Village (unfinished before his death, and completed by an employee), McLuhan analyzed the effects of world media networking:
What does it improve? “Instant transmission of diversified media on a global basis.”
What is obsolete? “Erodes the human capacity to decode in real time.”
What does he get? “Bring back the tower of Babel: the group voice in Ether.”
What does this reverse? “Reverse in loss of specialization: global synesthesia.”

You will find below this tetrade as an image. Note that synesthesia,, “Is a perceptual phenomenon in which stimulation of a sensory or cognitive path leads to involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive path. For example, people with synesthesia can experience colors when listening to music, see shapes by feeling certain perfumes or perceiving tastes when you look at words. ” This describes our current digital entourage well.
Understanding the media and false news are some of the activities of my Online workshop PKMA large part informed by the work of Marshall and Eric McLuhan.
