Throughout Africa, organizations are experiencing a universal and growing demand for technological skills, a significant change compared to previous years. All organizations interviewed in a recent report have indicated an increased need for technological skills in the past twelve months. This contrasts with a previous survey where 7% of companies have declared any change in their technological requirements.
The report Stresses that 50% of companies in all regions have noted a “significant” increase in the demand for technological skills. An additional half of all respondents observed that the need for technological skills has somewhat increased. This demand is particularly acute in South Africa, where 63% of organizations have declared a significant increase. Kenya and Nigeria also have high demand, with 43% and 40% of organizations, respectively, noting a significant increase in their need for technological skills.
While the AI developer and the generative skills linked to AI are highly appreciated, cybersecurity has become the most requested technological competence on the continent today. Eighty-six percent of organizations highlighted the importance of cybersecurity skills, closely followed by 85% IA development skills and a generative AI at 83%. This marks a significant leap compared to the 2022/2023 survey, where only 63% of organizations prioritize cybersecurity skills. The growing accent on cybersecurity can be attributed to the rapid expansion of the digital economy of Africa and to the millions of citizens integrated into the digital sphere through various initiatives of the public and private sector. Despite this increase in demand, only 14% of organizations around the world have confidence in their current cybersecurity skills.
