Chatham schools will continue with socio-emotional online learning until Thursday, May 1, before resuming lessons in person on Friday May 2. All sports and extracurricular activities are canceled until Thursday.

Additional advisers, social workers, therapy dogs and support staff will be available to meet students individually or in a group on Friday in their respective schools. Glenwood Middle School will offer advice and support in person on Wednesday April 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“Our goal of supporting emotional well-being and giving space for reflection, connection and care,” said school officials. “We are committed to meeting each student where they find themselves and help them sail in this difficult period in a way that honors their emotions and promotes healing.”

The school district highlighted its commitment to provide a safe and united environment to students, staff and families. “As a community, we are together in solidarity, we support each other through difficult times,” said officials. “We appreciate your understanding and cooperation while we work with diligence to maintain a safe and stimulating environment for our students.”

Families are encouraged to use the resources of the National Association of School Psychologists, including the line of crisis text available 24/7 by sending SMS home at 741741, to help discuss violence with children.
