UC Berkeley's College of Engineering has launched a new multidisciplinary professional diploma program, the Master of Advanced Study in Engineering (Mas-E)which widens the accessibility of an education at the level of graduates for professionals who are looking for “knowledge upgrades” in STEM fields.

The entirely online program, developed and offered in partnership with the online platform Racera, is designed to help today engineers keep up with the rate of innovation speed and to develop their skills in a world motivated by technological change – often while holding full -time job.

The Mas-E program includes unit courses from a semesters that attract the content of the best-classified engineering programs in Berkeley Engineering, providing academic rigor with flexibility to adapt to the individual history of students and learning objectives. The Mas-E Program requests should open the opening on Wednesday, September 13.

“The new Mas-E program will allow students to adapt their diploma to align themselves with their interests and their career objectives, helping them to keep in favor of technological advances while accelerating their professional development,” said King Tsu-Jae Liu, Dean of Engineering. “Mas-e graduates will be better prepared to meet complex engineering challenges and to pursue new opportunities with the knowledge, skills and connections acquired thanks to our unique online master's program.”

The catalog of the autonomous course program in a single unit will be provided by the renowned teachers of Berkeley Engineering. The courses are organized under five multidisciplinary themes and include a cornerstone project of two units.

Mas-e lectures will be pre-recorded and available at any time for students for an asynchronous and self-rhythmized study. The Berkeley Faculty will be available in a synchronous manner during regular online office hours to provide advice and support.

Students can register for the full -time or part -time program and have up to four years to meet the requirements of their diploma. Plean -time students will probably dipure their diploma in one year, while part -time students should take two to three years.

According to Tarek Zohdi, Dean Associate of Berkeley Engineering for research and the director of the faculty of the Mas-E program, the new program supports the mission of the college to make higher education more accessible to a diversified group of work engineers.

“Technology is progressing at an accelerated rate, and many professionals working in technical fields recognize the limits of knowledge and skills they master as undergraduate students. Consequently, professionals who are constantly looking for upgrades to “STEM areas, but they need a flexible study program that is compatible with their state of attendance.

“Berkeley Engineering has taken measures to make this professional mastery an feasible route for engineering professionals whose employment, family and other commitments prevent them from continuing graduate diplomas in a full-time residential engineering program,” he added. “This includes putting aside 15% of the revenues of Mas-S-SA tuition fees for the financial assistance of mas-e students.”

The design of the Mas -E program also reflects the growing interdisciplinary nature of modern engineering – and the evolution of the need for engineering leaders with the latest advanced technological expertise.

“The Mas diploma is designed only to help engineers expand their knowledge and skills and occupy leadership roles in which they successfully run projects and organizations in global environments that cross disciplinary boundaries,” he said.
