The director of retail operations, Clay Copeland, says that when Joe crossed the door, he was more than a welcome addition to their team of volunteers. He brought an expertise they did not have.
“He has been coming here twice a week for over 10 years now,” said Copeland. “Joe is a retired engineer, who brings a unique skills for catering. Joe tests our electronics. He works on small engines, and very honestly, everything that is very technical, Joe can repair or understand it for us.”
Joe is proud of the work for which he does to restore. It is not only to achieve his desire to contribute to his community, it is the families he is which he is able to touch in one way or another.
“A single mother or a working family who does not have the means to buy new equipment because they are so expensive today can come here and be assured that any used device or everything they buy is in good working order and will be able to meet their needs,” said Szulczewski.

These very houses are another reason why Joe is committed to the mission of the store. Each sale has a double impact.
“Restores provides Habitat for humanity,” said Szulczewski. “Then they can build houses for people who probably couldn't afford a deposit or other financial needs to buy a house.”
When you think of the impact and the value of something, Clay says, putting a price on what Joe brings to restore is a difficult thing to do.
“Joe is as close to the priceless image as possible, you might imagine it,” said Copeland. “We are a non -profit organization. We operate in difficult economic times.”
“He has a technical capacity based on 35 years of expertise in the engineering industry,” he added. “It is difficult to put a value on this subject. It is really invaluable to be honest.”
