Ball-chatham school district to stay on socio-emotional online learning days until Friday | Education

Chatham, ill. (Wand)-The Ball-Chatham school district will continue with socio-emotional online learning days until Friday, following the devastator An accident that killed 4 students and injured 6 others.

The school district released a statement describing their next steps on Tuesday afternoon.

In a statement sent to the families of Ball-Chatham, the district said: “Our community has its heart broken by the tragic event that has cost our beloved students Rylee Britton, Alma Buhnerkempe, Kathryn Corley and Ainsley Johnson and injured many others.

The declaration detailed the next steps that the district takes to help their students navigate in this difficult period in a way honors their emotions and promotes healing.

All Chatham schools will remain socio-emotional until Thursday May 1 and will return to learning in person on Friday May 2. All sports and extracurricular activities will be canceled until Thursday.

Additional advisers, social workers, therapy dogs and support staff will be available to meet students individually or in a group on Friday in their school.

Glenwood Middle School will continue to offer mourning advice and support for all on Wednesday April 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The district said they are committed to providing a safe and united space for all students, staff and families.

“As a community, we are together in solidarity, we support each other through difficult times. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation while we work with diligence to maintain a safe and stimulating environment for our students.”

A list of events and ways to help was provided. It includes watch, meal trains, information on blood donations, etc.

The Glenwood Student Council started A Go Fund to support the families of the victims. Tuesday afternoon, more than $ 100,000 had been collected.
