Format: resident with distant learning requirements
The EWSC establishes combat training skills and coordinates training to develop and maintain DOD trauma surgeons located in operational environments, military treatment facilities or level I trauma treatment facilities. This course is intended for surgeons in DOD trauma, orthopedic surgeons and surgical sub-series; However, medical assistants, trauma nurses, medical technicians and surgical technicians are able to assist and audit the course to obtain exposure to help with surgical doctors. The course consists of didactic distant learning conferences and a laboratory course in person. The course facilitators (general surgeons, orthopedic surgeons and other surgical specialties) will guide and help students better understand surgical treatment techniques specific to the patient injured in trauma in an austere environment. This course will help surgeons understand the pathophysiology of wounds by war to deal with the best care of the wounded. This course content is standardized between the three services by mutual agreement and the sharing of the study program. The completion of distance learning activity is necessary before frequentation of courses.
Advanced surgical skills for trauma exposure
The Asset + course establishes combat training skills and coordinates training to develop and maintain DOD trauma surgeons located in operational environments, military treatment facilities or level I trauma treatment facilities. This course is intended for surgeons in DOD trauma, orthopedic surgeons, surgical sub-series, medical assistants, nurses in trauma, medical technicians and surgical technicians. Students will receive a manual before following the course which gives an overview of key surgical exposures in five key anatomical zones: neck, chest, abdomen and pelvis, and upper and lower limbs. The two -day corpse and simulator course follows this modular approach to the body region. Each section begins with a brief overview of the cases; Followed by a practical exhibition made by students under the direction of the faculty. The student / teacher ratio is low, allowing in -depth orientations and interaction with students. The student assesses his ability to make each exhibition independently and is evaluated on knowledge and technical skills. This course will fulfill the element of skills for general surgery requirements for all services. The skills will follow the recommendations for clinical practice guidelines for training prior to deployment.
Orthopedic combat trauma surgery
The course of COTS + is to establish combat training skills and to coordinate training to develop and maintain the DOD orthopedic surgeons located in operational environments, military treatment facilities or trauma treatment facilities at level I. This course is intended for DOD orthopedic surgeons, trauma surgeons, surgical subsalities, medical assistants Nurses in trauma, medical technicians and surgical technicians. In addition to fractures, it is not uncommon for injuries to the ends of the battlefield also suffer complex injuries on soft tissues, vascular injuries and / or burns. During this intensive course, surgeons and other health care providers will receive practical surgical training which will prepare them to stabilize and reanySate trauma from the extremities. Participants will also learn the soft tissue cover techniques deployed appropriate for these injuries. This course will fulfill the element of skills of the KSAS requirements in orthopedic surgery for all services. The skills will follow the CPG recommendations for training prior to deployment.
The EWSC offers up to 30 CME. Nurses can petition to convert CMEs into CEU.

Steps for each service to register for the EWSC
US military
All students must fill out a DA 3838 form, signed by their commander. Transfer the Da form signed 3838 and the current physical condition test to the specific point of contact of the service indicated below. The seats are limited for this course and are not controlled by DMRTI or for instructor staff.
