As a student in Serbia passionate about mathematics and physics, Ana Trišović found herself attracted by IT and her practical and resolved problems with problems. It was then that she discovered the MIT Opencourseware, which is part of the MIT Open Learning, and decided to study a course on data analysis with Python in 2012 – something that her school did not offer.

This experience has been a transformer, explains Trišović, who is now a researcher at the FutureTech Lab within the IT and artificial MIT computer laboratory.

“This course has changed my life,” she says. “Throughout my career, I considered myself a Python coder, and MIT OpenCourseware made this possible. I was in my hometown on another continent, learning world -class class resources. When I think about my way, it's incredible. “

Over time, Trišović's path has led him to explore a range of OpenCoursware resources. She remembers that as a non -native English, some of the equipment were difficult. But thanks to the variety of learning courses and opportunities available on OpenCourseware, it has always been able to find those that suited it. She encourages anyone confronted with this same challenge to be persistent.

“If the first course does not work for you, try another,” she says. “Being persistent and investing in you is the best thing that a youngster can do.”

In her country of origin, Serbia, Trišović obtained undergraduate diplomas in computer science and mechanical engineering before going to the University of Cambridge and Cern, where she helped work on the great collision of Hadron and finished her doctorate in computer science in 2018. She also did research at the University of Chicago and the University of Harvard.

“I like computers to allow me to have an impact in a range of fields, but physics remains close to my heart, and I am constantly inspired by this,” she says.

MIT FutureTech, an interdisciplinary research group, is based on IT, economy and management to identify computer trends that create risks and opportunities for sustainable economic growth. There, Trišović studies the democratization of AI, including the implications of open source AI and how it will have an impact on science. Her work at MIT is an opportunity to rely on the research she has pursued since she was in higher education.

“My work focuses on computer sciences. For many years, I have been looking at what is called “science of science”- investigating questions such as research reproducibility, “said Trišović. “Now, as AI becomes more and more widespread and introduces new challenges, I am interested in examining a range of subjects – from the democratization of AI to its effects on the scientific method and the broader landscape of science.”

Trišović is grateful, in 2012, she made the decision to try something new and learn with an OpenCoursware course.

“I instantly fell in love with Python when I took this course. I have such a weakness for OpenCourseware – it shaped my career, ”she says. “Each day at MIT is inspiring. I work with people who are delighted to talk about AI and other fascinating subjects. ”
