I have fantastic conservatives in my community: people who always share an excellent work, great resources, who advance new ideas. When what they share strengthens what I already know how to be true, I feel good about it. So much so that I may not notice the songs that question my ideas.
Likewise, I read quite widely: not only deeply in a field, but on a wide range. And again, I find things that excite and motivate me, but perhaps at the cost of divergent or difficult ideas.
And of course, because many people in my communities share a certain expertise or a vision of the world with me, they often share things that agree with me. Resources that I know or adapt in a type.
I am surrounded by comforting mirrors.
While I prepare for the workshop on AI Strategic Next week, the last slide I have drawn is an encouragement to look beyond mirrors. To celebrate the landscape of awareness We know and to look in shadows beyond.
To diversify our spaces, celebrate our comfort and go beyond. This is linked to some Social leadership Work in which I was engaged yesterday, where we talked about communities that can keep the difference and dissent. Not just “together” because they agree, but “together” beyond that. Capable of maintaining ambiguity, developing new ideas. To feel done in gray. Then to dismantle it and start again.
Understanding, prospering inside or simply surviving the AI paradigm will require all this and more. We must resolve our existing systems and design the new one. And the walls that we must shoot down can be so large that we do not see them at all.
