Allentown, Pennsylvania – Students of Allentown work with a company in California to develop an animated film.

“Stories of Wonder in the Land of Oz” will be beginnings later this spring.

After six months of planning in Dodd Elementary, the project is starting to spark.

Fourth year students Anthony Hernandez and Brayden Cuevas Chen, and the fifth year Kylee Martinez-Perezira make films and help write them.

“We can be creative, and we can mainly do anything,” said the fourth level Brayden Cuevas Chen.

The team creates a three and a half minute segment which will be incorporated into the final film. Children acquire different skills, such as writing and voice play.

“I think that this opportunity will give them the skills necessary to continue writing in the future,” said Renee Liedig, Dodd Art art teacher, Renee Liedig.

Students of more than a dozen schools from the whole state join Wonder Media to contribute scenes to the animated film.

Martinez-Pereira lends her voice to Dorothy Gale.

“She is creative, she is intelligent and she is adventurous,” smiles Martinez-Perezira.

The same goes for students, whose director thinks that this program only scrapes the surface.

“I think it has the potential to grow far beyond Pennsylvania. I am super grateful that we were chosen to be part of it,” said director Kate Griffin.

“Stories of Wonder in the Land of Oz” should be presented to Pittsburgh on May 23, with a projection in the Lehigh Valley which will follow later in the year.
