Nairobi, Kenya,, March 17, 2025 / Prnewswire / – Huawei, UNESCO, and government partners have officially announced the completion of Phase II Kenya digischool Connectivity Project, which connected 21 schools to the Internet, including 6 schools for children with special educational needs.
Aligned with the government's digital government agenda and the commitment to connect all Kenyan Internet schools, the Digischool project is a partnership between the Kenya Ministry of Education, the ICT and digital economy ministry, Kenya power (KPLC), UNESCO and Huawei Tech4all.
The announcement event, which took place in Machakos primary school for the deaf March 14was officiated by Eng. John Tanui CBS, principal secretary of the State Department of ICT and the digital economy Kenya. School is one of the deaf children's schools that was linked to the country's wide -speed fiber network in the second phase of the project.
“We are here in Machakos primary school for the deaf to ensure that the school is connected to the national fiber so that they can better learn and help improve learning results. The videoconferencing equipment allows the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) to provide distance support to school administrators, teachers and deaf school learners, to improve teaching capacities in schools and to improve access to various services.

During the announcement event, participants knew first -hand how children use the Internet in class and the potential benefits of online video calls between learners and experts from Kise.

Within the framework of its long -term digital inclusion initiative Tech4all, Huawei has supported the Digischool connectivity project since the launch of phase I and has been responsible for technical assessments, solutions design, supply of equipment and project management. Phase 1 of the Digischool project has connected 13 schools to the Internet, benefiting 6,000 students and teachers. An assessment of the phase I found that:
- 98% of learners said that the Internet met their educational needs.
- 84% said that the Internet makes learning more exciting.
- 71% said online resources facilitate complex ideas.
