OPENAI has launched a consortium to accelerate the use of AI for educational and research purposes.
Nicknamed NextGenai, the initiative sees Openai engage $ 50 million at 15 institutions, notably Caltech, Harvard University, MIT, the University of Oxford and the Boston Children's Hospital, to name a few.
Each of the selected institutions uses AI to meet the challenges in all sectors, including health care, energy and education, consortium intended to accelerate the progression of these projects “at a faster rate than any establishment alone”, said Openai in a press release.
“This initiative is built not only to feed the next generation of discoveries,” said society, “but also to prepare the next generation to shape the future of AI.”
The announcement marks the last incursion of Openai in the education sector, the company launching Chatgpt Edu last May. This chatgpt iteration has been designed for use in universities, helping in daily campus tasks such as notation, personalized tutoring supply and assistance with subsidy requests.
Projects that should benefit from the latest funding include one from Harvard University and the Boston children's hospital using AI to improve patient diagnostics, with particular emphasis on rare diseases.
Another, at the University of Oxford, uses Openai to scan and transcribe rare texts from his Bodleian library.
“This new collaboration marks an exciting step forward, offering new opportunities to enrich our research, to expand our AI capacities and to promote skills development,” said Anne Trefethen, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, at the University of Oxford. “By working together, we can learn from each other, advance the borders of AI, understand its impact on education and unlock your vast potential for the benefit of our university community and beyond.”
Openai said it would use consortium's success to determine potential extensions to additional institutions.
“The field of AI would not be where it is today without decades of work in the university community,” said Brad Lightcap, Openai Exploitation Head. “Continuous collaboration is essential to build the AI that benefits everyone. NextGenai will accelerate the progress of research and will catalyze a new generation of institutions equipped to exploit the transformative power of the AI. »»
