What distinguishes the use of candidates or artificial intelligence (AI) on the job market? A report from the World Economic Forum noted that creative thought skills are an absolute priority followed by problem solving, adaptability and leadership skills. AI lacks creativity because it cannot correspond to human creativity, which is fueled by emotion, experience and intuition.

“Art teaches creative thinking strategies because we use different parts of the brain to access information and treat visuals,” said Tara Hateman, art teacher at Learn4life, a network of 85 public secondary schools. “Among my favorite things about teaching art is to see students developing skills in creative thinking, working in collaboration and gaining confidence thanks to self -expression.”

And it is these skills that employers are looking for. More than 73% of organizations have declared a creative thought SKILLS are an absolute priority in hiring talents, and they have agreed that this set of skills increases in relevance and importance.

“So, even if students do not plan to pursue a career in the arts, the skills they learn will help them remain competitive in today's workforce,” added Holeman. “About 40% of our brain is dedicated to visual treatment, making it a critical competence to analyze and interpret the visual information around us.”

While most educators agree that the arts should be widely available for students, when schools experience budget deficits, it is generally the courses of art and music that are cut – even in the states where it is mandated. For example, in California, only 11% of schools meet the requirements of the state that all students receive sequential arts education In dance, music, theater and visual arts.4

Holeman underlines that sometimes students are reluctant to register for an art class because they think you have to be talented to register.

“So we start with the fundamental principles of drawing and they learn to see things like an artist. They are starting to gain confidence and developing their own style, “she said. “Many of our students have had very little artistic experience, so I try to make projects accessible at all levels and give them the freedom to experience and explore so that everyone succeeds.”

A student who has flowered Holeman's art courses courageously entered some of his pieces from the Fresno State Fair and won several prizes. She continues to enter and win other art prizes, helped design and paint a community wall and build her wallet.

“I'm so proud of her,” said Holeman. “However, I am just as proud of students who were shy at the start of the course but I learned to take new creative risks and to persevere to find their own authentic style.”
