I recently had an excellent conversation with Tom Bailey on the Podcast Rogue L & D Hotshots, and we dug something that really fascinates me. As CEO to get up -transfers Learning, I spent years to find out how to help people not only learn, but to use what they learned – and this episode was an opportunity to share part of what I chose along the way.
We explained why the reflection counts so much. It is easy to be caught in the rush towards the work of L&D, but to step back – for ourselves and our learners – can make all the difference. We also succeeded in the delicate gap between knowing something and doing it. Too often, training seems perfect in theory but falls flat in practice, and I shared some reflections on the reasons why the emotional connection could be the key to repairing this.
A highlight was to talk about Coach MAn AI tool on which we have worked. It is designed to guide learners through action plans and reflection, and it was exciting to see how it helps people get more deeply. I have also opened personal moments – as it means hearing people who found my book, Transform learning into action (from 2014)Useful, and the real struggle for learning to work on video calls these days.
The big point to remember? Finding time to think is not only good advice – it is essential to make L&D significant.
