Applicants who already have an initial Massachusetts license in another field will receive the initial license in ESL once they pass the Mtel ESL and the teacher evidence 150 hours of teaching in an ESL framework.

This program does not provide approval but allows candidates to request approval directly from the primary and secondary education department.

The program can be completed as little as a year.

Mtels

To win a license, candidates must pass the following Mtel tests:

  • English as a second language

Provisional license

You will be eligible for a provisional license from Massachusetts in English as the second language (ESL) after finishing the Mtel concerned for the license.

Initial license

If you are an educator with an initial license in Massachusetts, you will be eligible for an initial license in ESL once you have succeeded in the Mtel ESL and the teacher evidence 150 hours of teaching in an ESL setting.

Applicants who are teachers not my must already have a license in their country of origin which is equivalent to an initial MA license.

Demand requirements

  • Submit a copy of a teaching license or proof of one -year teaching experience described in your test if you do not have a MA teaching license.

For teachers outside the state

  • Submit teachers of initial license or more in your state.

University requirements for admission to graduates

  • Submit a request via the online portal. Make sure to provide your full legal name and capitalize on the first letter of all proper names.
  • Pay non -refundable requests of $ 60 (American Express, Discover, Mastercard or Visa) via the online portal. For nursing candidates, non -refundable requests are $ 75.

We need a global minimum / total score of 72 on the IBT or Band 6.0 toefl on the iELTS or a 52 on the Pte Academic pearsons for entry to any program and a minimum score of 79 on the IBT TOEFL or the 6.5 band on the IELTS for examination for a teaching assistant. Some programs require higher minimum scores (see specific program requirements). Most programs also accept Duolingo with a minimum score of 95. The following programs do not accept Duolingo: artistic education, biology / marine biology, nurse (MS, DNP, PHD), psychology: clinical and political policy.
