Unlike physical campuses, the new virtual campus will be made up of teachers and staff distributed in the San Jacinto College district.
“We have 52 members of the Stellar faculty who run the first courses for San Jac online, and we are proud to bring their expertise in the foreground,” said online quality director Georges Deviveaux. “For the fall, they will fully move from our physical campuses to focus on the supply of the same high quality online learning experience.”
Progressive deployment of courses
The online campus will be introduced into phases, with the first deployment including a selection of basic courses.
“For phase I, we focus on traditional academic courses such as biology, communications, accounting and business,” said Deviveaux. “Phase II will include the remaining academic courses and probably certain labor programs. This is when we expect the full diplomas and certificates to be available via San Jac online.”
Registration For fall lessons, is now open and will remain available until August 17, the day before the lessons.
A coherent online experience
One of the main objectives of the new virtual campus is to create a coherent and transparent experience for students. The pandemic highlighted the challenges of incoherent online learning, where students were often faced with radically different course formats.
San Jac Online aims to remove these inconsistencies through the design and delivery of intentional online courses. The college uses the best sections of modeled practices after organizations that have done research on best practices in teaching and online design. These guidelines help ensure that courses offer learners' quality experience.
“We have 13 courses this semester participating in a pilot, where they are twinned with an educational designer and key members of the staff here at San Jacinto College,” said Deviveaux. “These courses are carefully designed to follow the section and guarantee that the section is effective and fulfill its objective. All sections of these courses will include the elements of these design standards. ”
Flexible learning
San Jac Online is designed to provide a flexible learning experience that meets the various needs of students.
“For people to curl up for new careers, which already occupy jobs and / or family responsibilities, it is much easier to adopt online courses in their schedules,” said Deviveaux. “San Jac Online will allow students to achieve their goals without being linked to a physical campus.”
In addition to its flexibility, San Jac Online provides a multitude of resources to support students' success.
“Students receive high -quality education via San Jacre online courses, with access to all the tools and resources they need to succeed,” said Deviveaux. “We want them to feel that they belong to San Jac, with the same support – such as online tutoring, library services and advice – that students on physical campuses receive, all inclusive in their tuition fees.”
To promote significant interaction, San Jac Online uses a variety of tools. The campus uses Blackboard as a learning management system, offering features such as courses, discussion forums and multimedia tools. San Jacs online teachers use a wide variety of technologies to engage their students in the learning process.
“Instructors can engage with students through traditional discussion prompts, but we also integrate more interactive options, such as assessments and activities integrated into course videos,” said Deviveaux.
This allows students to interact directly with learning equipment, adding a more practical touch to the online environment.
