Driving in the opportunity: a Mvet catering truck set to prepare professional skills – Whiz

Zanesville, Oh – A new opportunity takes place in the city providing vocational training and a community connection with it.

The Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center (MPEC) received a $ 100,000 subsidy from the Charitable JW & MH Straker Foundation to buy and operate a catering truck for the MveCc adult success program.

The catering truck will be exploited by students of the success program, which focuses on helping students to gain real world experience, to improve social skills and to develop greater independence.

“We have a success program for adults here at ESC, which serves students aged 18 to 22 who postpone the diploma. They have a coffee trolley on the first floor here at ESC, “said Kate Kate Kimble Mvesc’s student services. “They also go to different work sites to work on professional skills, social skills and employability skills. We had the idea that it could be really cool to get a catering truck out in the community. »»

The catering truck will allow students to gain practical experience in preparing food, customer service and financial management – differences that can help them get into confidence.

Steve Foreman grants the administrator of Mvet added: “I think that one of the things that this program provides is an employability competence. For example, if students chose to work in a fast food restaurant, they would gain experience by serving, by manipulating money, interacting with customers and working on general skills. They are all very important employability skills they will learn. »»

Although the catering truck is not yet operational, the organizers say that financing the Straker Foundation is a major step to make this vision a reality. As the plans develop, the Mvet works to finalize the details of the menu, the calendar and the locations of the truck.
