MIT Learn offers “a whole new gateway to the Institute” | News put

In 2001, MIT became the first higher education establishment to provide educational resources to everyone in the world for free. Rapid advance 24 years: The Institute has now launched a dynamic website compatible for its non -degree learning opportunities, which allows learners around the world to discover the courses and resources available on the various MIT learning platforms.

MIT learned Allows learners to access more than 12,700 educational resources – including introductory and advanced courses, tutorials, videos, podcasts and more – departments of the Institute. MIT Learn is designed to transparently connect the learning platforms of the existing institute in one place.

“With MIT Learn, we open access to digital MIT learning opportunities for millions around the world,” explains Dimitris Bertsimas, vice-prevôr for open learning. “MIT Learn raises learning with personalized recommendations powered by AI, guiding each learner to a more in -depth understanding. It is a springboard towards a broader vision of making these opportunities even more accessible to world learners via a unified learning platform. ”

The objective of MIT Learn is twofold: to allow learners to find what they want to achieve their curiosity and to allow learners to develop a long -term relationship with MIT as a source of educational experiences.

“By promoting long -term links between learners and put it, we provide not only a path to continuous learning, but also the mission of MIT to disseminate knowledge worldwide,” explains Ferdi Alimadhi, director of MIT technology with open learning and the head of MIT Learn Project. “With this initial launch of Mit Learn, we introduce features fueled by AI that exploit emerging technologies to help learners to discover the right content, to engage more deeply and to stay supported by shaping their own educational trips.”

With its sophisticated research, journey and discovery capacities, MIT Learn allows learners to explore subjects without having to understand the organizational structure of MIT or to know the names of the departments and programs. A recommendation function fed by AI called “Ask Tim” completes the traditional research and navigation tools of the site, helping learners to quickly find courses and resources aligned on their personal and professional goals. Learners can also encourage “ask Tim” a summary of the structure, subjects and expectations of a course, leading to more informed decisions before registering.

In some offers, such as Molecular biology: DNA replication and repair,, Genetics: the fundamentalsAnd Cell biology: transport and signalingLearners can interact with an AI assistant by asking questions about a conference, asking for flashcards of key concepts and obtaining instant summaries. These selected offers also include an AI tutor to support learners because they work through problems, guiding them to the next step without giving the answers. These features, according to Alimadhi, are introduced into a limited set of courses and modules to allow the open learning team to collect ideas and improve the learning experience before developing more widely.

“The MIT Learn is a brand new gateway to the Institute,” explains Christopher Capozzola, a main partner for Open Learning, who worked with the teachers of the Project Institute. “Like Kendall Square's renovations have transformed the way people interact with our physical campus, MIT Learn transforms how people get involved with what we offer digitally.”

Learners who choose to create an account on MIT Learn receive personalized courses recommendations and can create and organize educational resources lists, follow their specific areas of interest and receive notifications when new MIT content is available. They can also personalize their learning experience according to their specific interests and choose the format that suits them best.

“From anywhere and for anyone, the Learn makes learning throughout the life more accessible and personalized, relying on the decades of world leadership of the Institute in open learning,” said Antha Chandrakasan, MIT provost.

Mit Learn was designed to take into account the evolutionary needs of a learner throughout his learning journey. It highlights additional study equipment for college students, high school students and students, the possibilities of reducing professionals at the start of their career, the reskilling programs for those who envisage a career change and resources for educators.

“The MIT has an incredible collection of learning opportunities, covering a wide range of formats,” explains Eric Grimson, chancellor of academic advancement, which supervised the initial development of MIT Learn during his time as an acting vice-president for open learning. “The size of this collection can be intimidating, therefore creating a platform that brings together all these offers, in an easily viewed setting, considerably improves our ability to serve learners.”

According to Peter Hirst, the main partner for executive education at MIT Sloan School of Management, one of the incredible forces of the Institute is its volume and its diversity of expertise, research and learning. But it can be difficult to discover and follow all these opportunities – even for people immersed in the experience on campus. MIT learns, he says, is a solution to this problem.

MIT Learn was led by MIT Open Learning, which aims to transform teaching and learning on and outside the Institute's campus. MIT Learn was developed with the management of the old provost Cynthia Barnhart and in cooperation with the executive education and vocational education of Sloan.
